What was the best small festival, who hosted the best dance and rock acts and who had the best loo? Ponder no more - the results for the Irish Festival Awards are in!

In a heartwarming case of the little festival that could, Knockanstockan down at Blessington Lakes in Wicklow was the biggest winner of the poll which is voted for by Ireland's festival goers.

Knockanstockan cleaned up with a total of four gongs for Best Small Festival, Best Line-up, Best Family Festival and the all-important (right?) Social Responsibility Award.

More than 24,000 Irish music fans attended festivals throughout Summer 2012 and they also voted strongly for Electric Picnic which won Best Large Festival and Greenest Festival Awards. Camden Crawl was bestowed with the Best New Festival title clearly for naming itself after an area of London where the Britpop wars took place nearly twenty years ago.

"The Irish Festival Awards were set up in 2007 to honour the people behind the scenes that make every Irish Summer such an eclectic celebration of music, art and performance," said Awards Director, Cillian Stewart of Cherrycool Promotions.

"Smaller festivals are now weighed in various categories to give them a fair chance against the bigger events and this helped them win big in 2012 with Knockanstockan winning four of the categories."

"We have really seen a swing too with music fans looking in a more detailed way at festivals' pricing structure leading to a noticeable move away from the bigger events."
