Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner has been dropping intriguing hints about the new season of the multi-award winning sixties ad-land drama.
The series returns to US TV screens on April 7 with a two-hour episode and Sky Atlantic has confirmed to RTÉ Ten that they'll follow soon after.
If that's not enough to get you cultured, urbane and snappily-dressed Maddies (please insert their own collective noun here) breaking out into a suave sweat, series creator Matthew Weiner has dropped a few hints about what's in store for Don and his co-workers.
Spoiler alert! (as the young people say).
Weiner confirmed to The Daily Beast that this will be the penultimate season of Mad Men and that Elizabeth Olsen who plays Peggy will be back despite jumping ship from Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce in season 5. Not that means she and Don Draper will ever reunite, professionally.
The writer also says that the final minutes of last season's finale contains "incredibly important" information about Season 6. If you recall, at the end of the season, we saw Don in characteristically pensive mood sitting alone at a bar where he is approached by a very attractive young lady who asks, "Are you alone?"
"So where is he going from there?" Weiner says. "I don't know. Is he going to try and repair his relationship with Megan? Is he going to move on from it? I can't tell you. I would love for people to just watch the last 10 minutes of Season 5 right before Season 6 starts. I think you'll have a really incredible experience as we get there."
There will also be a time jump between seasons. "I am going to skip ahead in time," Weiner says. "I won't say how long, but the first two episodes are a movie unto themselves. And they do foreshadow what's going to happen in the season.
"They do tell a story of the period and root you where you are in these people's lives. But a lot has changed when the season opens up. A lot has changed."
