It's taken three years to cross the Atlantic - but tonight Louie CK's critically acclaimed comedy Louie starts on British satellite channel FOX.

This is meant to be one of the best American comedies of modern times - although it's more from the Sarah Silverman Program/Curb Your Enthusiasm school of humour than New Girl or Mike and Molly.

The series is loosely based on comedian Louis CK's life, showing him as a comic onstage, and depicting his life offstage as a newly divorced father of two girls.

Each episode features either two stories that may or may not connect, or a longer full-episode story, all of which revolve around the man himself.

In the opening show, Louie accompanies his daughter on a class trip - but the bus gets lost and leaves them stranded in Harlem.

Louie starts tonight (Tuesday) at 9.00pm on FOX
