Fox head Kevin Reilly has praised the current fourth season of US comedy-drama Glee.

The network's Chairman of Entertainment claimed at this year's TCA press tour that the show's new format - which divides between characters at McKinley High and those living in New York - has "worked very well".

"That's a high-risk thing," Collider reports him saying, "to essentially introduce another show within the show and define Glee in a more broad way, and I think it's worked really well."

In New York, Rachel begins her freshman year at NYADA and finds the adjustment more of a struggle than she anticipated.

With Kurt having failed to win a place at NYADA and Finn joining the army, she's all alone in the Big Apple and falling foul of no-nonsense dance teacher Cassandra July (guest star Kate Hudson).

"Cutting back and forth has been seamless, and both worlds having been pretty dynamic. For the most part, I think we've heard a lot of good reaction from the fans," says Reilly.

Glee season four begins on TV3 tonight (Wednesday January 9th) at 8.00pm and continues on Sky1 on Sundays.
