The Voice of Ireland returned last night with new coach Jamelia joining Kian Egan, Sharon Corr and Bressie on the panel to find new Irish talent.

Last night nine people made it through to the next stage of the competition with Sharon choosing Fiona McCourt, Mark Gildea and Gary Tighe, Jamelia picking Keith Hanley, Roisin Carlin and Dylan Powell, Bressie selecting Michelle Cunningham and Sinead O'Brien and Kian backing Joey McAleer.

Both Jamelia and Bressie were impressed with Keith but when the new coach casually announced that she is friends with Beyonce there was no contest with Keith choosing Jamelia.

One hopeful who failed to make the cut was Dubliner Amy Cooney who has lost an impressive eight stone after undergoing gastric surgery. She didn't get picked but got a hug from Bressie who she admitted she had a crush on.

Contestants will continue to audition in the blind stages, battle against each other in the battle stages and finally take to the live stage in Dublin's Helix for a chance to win a recording contract with Universal.

Last year's winner Pat Byrne recently released his Top Ten album All or Nothing in November 2012.
