Jay-Z has signed on to compose several scores for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

Jay-Z has signed on to compose several scores for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

The rapper will collaborate with The Bullitts on the new songs for the film's soundtrack.

Jeymes Samuel of The Bullitts announced his plans to work with Jay-Z on the project on his Twitter page.

Samuel wrote: "Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming ?CLASSIC 'The Great Gatsby. It is too DOPE for words!"

Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.

The period drama is based on F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel which is narrated by Nick Carraway (Maguire), a young man living in Long Island in the roaring twenties, whose life is changed when he meets Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio).

The film is due to be released on May 10, 2013.
