With the movie Jack Reacher set to open in Ireland on St Stephen's Day, Wednesday December 26, author Lee Child has said his iconic hero could travel to Ireland in a future book.

With the movie Jack Reacher set to open in Ireland on St Stephen's Day, Wednesday December 26, author Lee Child has said his iconic hero could travel to Ireland in a future book.

Asked by RTÉ TEN if he could ever see Reacher making it over to Ireland, Child replied: "Ireland is the sort of place he would show up, absolutely.

"There'd have to be a reason for it, but we could find one - women or bad guys. I understand you got plenty of both in Ireland!"

Written for the screen and directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects (w), The Way of the Gun (wd)) and starring Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, David Oyelowo and Robert Duvall, the movie Jack Reacher is based on Child's book One Shot.

It tells the story of former military police officer Reacher's unorthodox investigation into a fatal multiple shooting.
