Day-Lewis is nominated for his performance in Lincoln and is joined on the shortlist by Richard Gere (Arbitrage), John Hawkes (The Sessions), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) and Denzel Washington (Flight).

Lincoln leads the nominations with seven, including Best Film - Drama, Best Director (Steven Spielberg), Best Supporting Actress (Sally Field) and Best Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones).

Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone), Helen Mirren (Hitchcock), Naomi Watts (The Impossible) and Rachel Weisz (The Deep Blue Sea) are the Best Actress - Drama nominees.

The nominees for Best Director are: Ben Affleck (Argo), Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) and Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained).

Jack Black (Bernie), Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables), Ewan McGregor (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) and Bill Murray (Hyde Park on Hudson) are the nominees for Best Actor - Musical or Comedy.

Emily Blunt (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen), Judi Dench (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Maggie Smith (Quartet) and Meryl Streep (Hope Springs) are the nominees for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress are: Amy Adams (The Master), Sally Field (Lincoln), Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables), Helen Hunt (The Sessions) and Nicole Kidman (The Paperboy).

Alan Arkin (Argo), Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) are the nominees for Best Supporting Actor.

Argo, Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty are nominated for Best Picture - Drama, while The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Misérables, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Silver Linings Playbook are nominated for Best Picture -Musical or Comedy.

Brave, Rise of the Guardians, Frankenweenie, Wreck It Ralph and Hotel Transylvania are nominated for Best Animated Film, with Amour, A Royal Affair, The Intouchables, Kon-Tiki and Rust and Bone shortlisted for Best Foreign Language Film.
