Love/Hate's Lawrence Kinlan, who plays Elmo and Jason Barry who plays Dano spoke to Kathryn Thomas on RTÉ Radio One about the show's ratings.

Presenting the John Murray show this morning, Thomas said: "Over 820,000...tuned into the fourth episode of Love/Hate on Sunday night to watch the continuing exploits of Nidge, Darren, Tommy, Dano and Elmo.

"There is no doubt that the show has provoked water-cooler moments up and down the country and while the graphic violence has drawn a lot of criticism, the series, for the most part has been getting extraordinarily good reviews."

Kinlan who plays Elmo, shared his reaction upon hearing the figures: "I was a little surprised, I've been talking to Stuart (Carolan, the writer of Love/Hate) over the last couple of weeks and he said it's grown and it's grown, this year has just been insane."

Barry, who is currently in Los Angeles, added: "It's incredibly impressive, I do check the [ratings on the] RTÉ website and the Irish papers.

"The response I'm getting even in LA is incredibly impressive but what I love about it is that creatively the show is being completely respected.

"As an actor, it's great to be involved with a show that's popular but to be involved in a show that is creatively popular and the industry loves, its great stuff."
