Kenny Meyler died from his injuries almost a week after being stabbed

A Western Australia Police spokesman has said the charges against an Irishman held in connection with the stabbing of Kenny Meyler from Co Wexford may be upgraded.

It follows the results of a post mortem examination.

Mr Meyler, 21, died on Saturday from his wounds, six days after he was stabbed in a suburb of Perth.

Vincent Martin Crowe was charged with grievous bodily harm when he appeared in court last week.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that he is also Irish.

Arrangements are being made to repatriate Mr Meyler's body.

Mr Crowe is due to appear in court again on 25 February.

A DFA spokesperson said his family has been offered consular assistance.
