Fianna Fáil tops new opinion poll

Micheál Martin has seen a rise in support for Fianna Fáil under his leadership

A new opinion poll has shown Fianna Fáil as the most popular party for the first time in almost five years.

Conducted among 1,000 voters, the Ipsos MRBI poll which is to be published in tomorrow's Irish Times, was taken on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the poll, support for Fine Gael is down six points since the last Irish Times poll in October, while Labour drops two to 10%.

For the first time in almost five years Fianna Fáil is in top position, up five points to 26%. Sinn Féin’s support is down two to 18%, while Independents and others are up five to 21%.

Just 18% of voters said they were satisfied with the Government, compared to 77% who are dissatisfied.
